Father Gabriel's 10 Day Stay In Parish

During Father Terry Boland's two week vacation to Vancouver, the Parish was honoured to have Father Gabriel Selvanathan Augustine take his place and celebrate weekend masses at Our Lady of Lourdes and Our Lady of the Cape Churches and St. Ann & St. Philomena Mission Chapels, as well as daily masses in the Parish Church.  From the moment of his arrival, Father Gabriel began mingling with the parishioners and it was immediately apparent that he felt welcome and at home here and that the parishioners felt at ease with him also.  Aside from his spiritual duties, Father Gabriel managed to tour the local sights and sample our local cuisine, in restaurants, at the Parish house and in the homes of parishioners.  He commented several times on how much he was enjoying his stay, the vibrancy of the parish and the feeling of family throughout. His parting words to the parishioners were, "I did not feel like a foreigner here in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish but rather a member of a close-knit community family."

Father Gabriel was born in Nangathur, Tamilnadu, India on May 31st, 1977 of parents Augustine and Siluvaimary and has two brothers and four sisters.  He was ordained to the priesthood on April 18th, 2006 and served in India for the past six years before coming to the Diocese of Corner Brook and Labrador in June of 2012.

Father Gabriel's interests include music, Parish activities, Preaching, and the education of poor and orphaned children in India.

The Parish wishes to express its thanks to Msgr. Edwin Gale and the Cathedral Parish of the Most Holy Redeemer and Immaculate Conception in Corner Brook for permitting Father Gabriel to be with us for these 10 days.  Thank You also to everyone in the Parish for assisting Father Gabriel during his stay with us and for making him feel so much at home.
